In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 28, the North Royalton Fire Department was dispatched to a home off of Bunker Road. The call came in at 5:35 p.m. for a fire at a home at 8641 Stephanie Drive.
Mutual aid was called from Broadview Heights and Parma. The fire was contained in about 30 minutes, according to Chegan. When the fire department arrived the fire was located in the back side of the house, in an enclosed porch that extended into the walls of the garage and house
According to North Royalton Fire Chief Bob Chegan, “the family was home at the time but, because the fire started in the enclosed porch, they did not smell smoke until the fire was well underway. “ The residents then evacuated the house and called 911. No one was injured.
The actual cause of the fire was “careless disposal of smoking materials and is considered an accident,” said Chegan. The fire was extinguished in about fifteen minutes, but the North Royalton Fire Department stayed on to ensure that hot spots did not re-ignite the fire.
