Santa Claus is polishing his boots and getting ready for his visit to the North Royalton Lighting of the City Green. He will take part in the annual Christmas Parade and Lighting of the City Green Ceremony on Sunday, November 27, ready to visit with our area children, and listening to their Christmas wishes.
The Holiday Lighting Committee continues this tradition for another year to bring us this fun event which we can enjoy with our family, friends and neighbors. Residents can relax, enjoy themselves and create more or new holiday memories.
The parade will begin at St. Albert the Great Church parking lot at 4:45 p.m. The parade will travel west on Royalwood Road and turn left onto Ridge Road and head south to Route 82. The parade will turn right onto Royalton Road and will turn right onto City Hall Drive and head for the “North Pole on the City Green.”
In addition to planning the parade, decorating and the lighting of the Green, the Committee has been busy finding sponsors for the “Avenue of Trees” display. The avenue features six-foot lighted holiday trees with an ornament that displays the sponsor’s name.
Decorations for the lighting are made possible from funds raised at the Harvest Fest held on the City Green in the fall.
The parade will be held regardless of weather, so be sure you dress accordingly. If you’re cold following the parade, you can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and a quick snack at Judy’s Chocolate Cafe on the City Green. Parking for the event is available at the North Royalton Middle School and at North Royalton High School.
Santa Claus will not be driving a sleigh pulled by eight tiny reindeer but will arrive on the back of a shiny North Royalton Fire Department truck. After the parade, Santa will take up temporary residence in his “little red house” on the City Green where he will talk with the children of North Royalton and make mental notes of what they want in their stockings. Of course, Mrs. Claus and the elves will join him and help. Each child who visits Santa will receive a small gift.
At the conclusion of the parade, Mayor Bob Stefanik will flip the switch to turn the City Green into a winter wonderland. The lights will remain turned on until after the Orthodox New Year celebration.
At the end of the Thanksgiving weekend, join your friends and neighbors for the Holiday Parade and Lighting Ceremony on the City Green on Sunday, November 27.
