The first meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Monday, January 10.
The Board adopted the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Tax Budget. It then approved transfers from the NRHS Student Council Fund to the following: Baseball Club, Track Club, Girls Basketball Club, Cross Country Club, Boys Football Club, each in the amount of $144.13. The Board then approved the 2021-22 appropriation adjustment from the 499 Miscellaneous State Grant Fund, from $150.96 to $21,690.42.
North Royalton Middle School Principal, Jeff Cicerchi gave a presentation on the Middle School Football Tailgate, that had the highest amount of participation, as an example of the events that take place through the school year.
One resident addressed the Board on the election of Jeremiah Sawyer and Lisa Shuck to the North Royalton School Board.
School Superintendent, Mike Laub, gave an update on the COVID protocols, saying that “we want to remain in school, that’s our goal, to remain in school and do what we need to do to be in school” He continues to be in communication with parents on the continually changing information. He went on to discuss the overall health of the students, saying that “we took a look at the Speed, Strength and Wellness class from another district.” He explained that the purpose of the class was to promote mental health through proper diet and exercise. “It’s a lifelong skill that will give our students an opportunity to sign up and take part in where they will learn their way around the weight room and other exercise opportunities and also learn a lot about health and nutrition. We’re excited about offering that next year.”
The Board authorized Summer School and Safety Town for the 2022-23 school year.
The Board approved a service contract with Spectrum Enterprise for fiber connection between the bus facility and the North Royalton Middle School.
The Board approved a contract with Wraparound Experts, LLC for substitute special education evaluations from January through March.
The Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the city of North Royalton/North Royalton Police Department regarding the School Resource Officer.
The Board accepted the retirement of Janet Boyer and Cynthia Medzi. The also accepted the following resignation/retirement:

The Board approved the stipend for extended detention and academic support after school from the general fund at $30.71 per hour for Elizabeth O’Donnell.
The Board amended a resolution that delegates authority of the School Superintendent and Board President to enter into an agreement with Unison Site Management, transferring the district’s future rental payments under cell tower leases from Albion and the North Royalton Middle School sites for payment of $1,525,000 to be paid out in two equal installments over the next year.

The next regularly-scheduled Board of Education meeting will take place on Monday, February 14, at 7 p.m. at the NRHS Community Room.
The Board then recessed into executive session to consider the sale of property at competitive bidding.
