The May meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Monday, May 9.
The Board approved the following 2021-22 appropriation adjustment: 003-Permanent Improvement, from $ 3,524,250. to $ 3,780,250. (Increased revenue for maintenance & repairs); 499-9222- BWC HVAC Grant, from nothing to $13,221.00 (Increased revenue for the purpose of HVAC maintenance & repairs); 300 District Managed Student Activity Fund, from $400,000. to $475,000. (increased revenue for year-end expenditures).
The Board approved the 2022 five-year forecast.
North Royalton School Superintendent, Mike Laub, gave a reminder about the Strategic Plan’s final group meeting on May 16. “I’m very pleased and very excited about the first meeting. We had about one hundred and forty people come and in the last meeting we had in the high sixties/early seventies . . . people are very invested in what it is that we are doing to identify how we want to move forward and take on those stages that we talked about in how we want to grow as a group.”
He said that after the final meeting, they will clean it up and have it ready for the Board in August.
The Board resolved to approve the following contract, salary on schedule: David Guciardo, Middle School Assistant Principal/effective August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2025.
The Board resolved to renew the following administrative contracts for non-teaching supervisor/coordinator positions, salary on schedule:
Greg Hovan, Transportation Supervisor, effective August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2025
Kevin Sefl, Mechanic Supervisor, effective August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2025
Harry Swartzlander, Food Services Supervisor, effective August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2025.
The Board resolved to approve the following administrative changes of assignments:
-Erin Calabrese, from Middle School Assistant Principal to Middle School Principal, effective August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2025, at a base salary of $100,695.
-Jeff Cicerchi, from Middle School Principal to Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, effective August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2025, at a base salary of $105,060.
-Patrick Farrell, from Director of Personnel to Director of Human Resources, effective August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2025, at a base salary of $109,943.
-Melissa Vojta, from Director of Curriculum and Instruction to Assistant Superintendent, effective August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2025, at a base salary of $116,108.
The Board resolved to honor Matthew Ciha as the 2021-22 Teach of the Year and Vittoria Rodriguez as the 2020-21 Support Staff Person of Year.
The Board approved a revised agreement with Maxim Healthcare Services for health care services for the 2021-22 school year.
The Board approved participation with STEPS Educational Group for special education program and services, as needed, for the 2021-22 school year.
The Board approved the following agreements for the 2022-23 school year: Kindslink School, LLC for special needs student services; Gene Rust Consulting for software service and maintenance for the GiftedWerks program; and ABA Outreach Services for a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst for hands-on training and support for staff members.
The Board renewed the membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for the 2022-23 school year. A motion was made by Board Member Jeremiah Sawyer that a notation on the agreement be made that the Board does not agree with a section of the By-law 1-6-3, regarding biological males competing with biological females. The Board approved the following stipends:
High School Credit Recovery In-Person Support from June 10, 2022 through June 30, 2022, from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief fund (ESSER II) at $30.71 per hour for: Matthew Ciha, Joseph Francescangeli, Sarah Likowski, Annetta Strimel-Paszt and Kathryn Schultz.
High School Remote Monitoring from June 10, 2022 through August12, 2022, from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief fund (ESSER II) at $30.71 per hour up to 40 hours for the eight-week period. Effective August 1, 2022,hourly pay will be .0007 of base pay for .Heather Bartel, Megan Dolar, Tennille Haugh, Sarah Likowski, and Annetta Strimel-Paszt.
Algebra End-of-Course Remediation and Test Administration from June 10, 2022 through June 28, 2022, from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief fund (ESSER II) at $30.71 per hour for Angeline Scott.
The Board granted continuing status as teachers to the following staff members, salary on schedule, effective for the 2022-23 school year: Heather Bartel, Joanne Carnabuci, Briana Flowers, Joseph Francescangeli, Brittany Martella, Kalee Moore, Stephanie O’Donnell, Allison Smith, Rachel Tarnowski and Kara Wojcik.

The Board accepted and acknowledged the following gifts and donations:
-Timothy Root of North Royalton donated $2,400 to the football program at North Royalton High School.
-Mr. Divots in North Royalton donated 1,400 coupons for a free round of mini-golf to North Royalton Elementary School.
The Board approved an agreement with Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company for voluntary student accident and sickness insurance program for the 2022-23 school year, underwritten by Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company.
The next monthly Board meeting will take place on Monday, June 13, at 7 p.m. at the North Royalton High School Community Room.
