Several road and sewer projects are causing motorists to make some choices to best maneuver in the City this summer. As usual with these types of projects, detours will need to be heeded, in order to prevent delays.
State Road Bridge Deck Repair and Rehabilitation
According to the North Royalton Engineering Department, “Construction is ongoing for the re-decking of the State Road bridge over the Ohio Turnpike. Construction is scheduled to be ongoing to November. In addition to replacing the existing bridge deck, proper 5-foot-wide sidewalks will be installed on the new structure to provide safer passage for pedestrians. Local traffic may utilize Edgerton Road, Ridge Road, and Akins Road to reduce disruption.”
Abbey Road Gravity Sewer Improvements
Construction of a new gravity sanitary sewer in the Abbey Road right-of-way has begun. The work on Abbey Road will be from just north of the Ohio Turnpike to Club House Drive and should be completed by late July. Two-way traffic will be maintained on a single lane with flaggers during active construction and will be reopened to two lanes during off hours. The contractor will then complete the portion of the new sewer running parallel to the Ohio Turnpike over the next couple months. This section will be from Abbey Road to approximately 12,500 feet east, where it will tie into the existing main that crosses under the Ohio Turnpike.
The North Royalton Police Department recently posted this information on their Facebook page: “IMPORTANT TRAFFIC INFORMATION REGARDING ABBEY ROAD: The closure of Abbey Road has been scheduled between Albion and Royalton Roads from June 9 to August 29 to through traffic. Through traffic will be rerouted to West 130 Street. Other than reducing the volume of traffic, local residents and businesses should have no less access than they currently do. However, in two to three weeks, there will be one week of daily complete closures, for even local traffic, at specific addresses for sewer lateral installations. This will impact six residences at the south end of Abbey, just north of the Turnpike. Those residents will be notified. The contractor will perform 1-2 laterals per day and will reopen the traffic in those locations for local traffic each night. Every resident and business will be able to get into and out of their properties. They will just be restricted from which direction they have access. Most will need to enter and leave from the north only those days. Once these are complete, the contractor will then do some paving on the east side of the road where the new sewer is being installed.
Abbey Road Resurfacing
According to the North Royalton Engineering Department, “resurfacing Abbey Road from Albion Road to just north of the Ohio Turnpike Bridge is planned to be completed between late August and September. This project will follow after the Abbey Road gravity sewer work is completed. Two-way traffic will be maintained on a single lane with flaggers during active construction and will reopen to two lanes during off hours.”
Edgerton Road Gravity Sewer Improvements
Construction of a new gravity sanitary sewer in the Edgerton Road right-of-way will begin around the start of June. The work on Edgerton Road will be from just east of River Walk Circle to the East Corporation Limit. Construction should last a couple of months and be completed around the end of August. Much of the work will be off the north side of the Edgerton Road pavement and two-way traffic will be maintained with flaggers as necessary during active construction,” according to the North Royalton Engineering Department.
