It was hard to tell who was having a better time at the 15th annual North Royalton Pet Carnival. Was it our four-footed friends or their owners? The answer is ... probably both. Sunday, July 24, was the first pet carnival held on the City Green since 2019. We have the COVID-19 pandemic to thank for the delay. The two-year hiatus added to the excitement of dog owners being able to come and show off their pets. Black Bears in North Royalton? Oh My!
There have been several postings on social media about bear sightings here in North Royalton, but George Stuart, North Royalton Senior Animal Control Officer, said that nothing has been reported to North Royalton Animal Control. Black bears can be found in Alaska, Canada and the contiguous United States, and also parts of Mexico. Locally, black bear sightings have been confirmed in Hudson, Bath, Wadsworth, and Norton since the end of June. Although not common, black bears have been reported from time to time. City is granted $1M for Memorial Park renovation
The City of North Royalton was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $1 million from the Cuyahoga County Council. Dial 988 for Mental Health Support
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline has been transitioned from a 1-800 phone number to simply dialing 988 for those in need of mental health support. The transition took place on July 16. Crisis care is available through 988 on a 24/7 basis for those having emotional distress, suicidal thoughts or a substance use crisis. It also links to the Veterans Crisis Line. This change was a result of a three-year joint effort by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The North Royalton Homesteaders 4-H Club members are readying their projects for the 125th running of the Cuyahoga County Fair (August 9-14) and the 4-H Livestock Auction, which takes place on the last night of the fair, Saturday, August 13, at 7 p.m. North Royalton Homesteaders 4-H Club members will have a record number of large livestock projects for sale at the 4-H Livestock Auction this year, including three steer (Black Angus), four hogs, two lambs, as well as five pens of chickens (known as ‘broilers’) and a pen of market ducks.
