Council Increases Fine for Failing to Stop for School Bus

The North Royalton City Council unanimously adopted legislation that increases the fine for those who fail to stop for a school bus that is in the process of dropping off children. The fine has been doubled, from $500 to $1,000. The legislation amends the current ordinance Part 4 Traffic Code, Title Six, Chapter 432 Operation Generally, Section 432.30 Stopping for School Bus; Actuating Visual Signals; Discharging Children, Paragraph (f)(1). The COVID-19 pandemic has hit North Royalton businesses, especially small businesses, as it has across the country. All but essential businesses have been closed, but some, especially restaurants, have remained open for business, but only for take out and delivery. The April meeting of the North Royalton City Council took place on Tuesday, April 7. The meeting was held in Council chambers, but most of the Council members, as well as some audience members, attended via teleconferencing software.
