Royal Redeemer members extend a helping hand to those in need on Servant Saturday

Saturday, October 6, was Servant Saturday, a day when 380 members of Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church showed that they were the hands and feet of God. Volunteers with their cleaning supplies, rakes, shovels and the like, tackled 40 projects here in North Royalton and throughout the area. Some of the locations where volunteers helped out were area nursing homes, Habitat for Humanity, the Cleveland Pregnancy Center, the Brunswick Family Center, and the Second Mile Thrift Store in Berea, the Parma Animal Shelter and the Gardenview Horticultural Park. Upgrades coming to City Green next spring

The upgrading of the City Green will start with the recent approval of the North Royalton City Council’s legislation that accepts the lowest and best bid for electrical improvement. Out of four bidders, Council approved the bid of D.E. Williams Electric, Incorporated for a bid not to exceed $166,020.00. Earlier this year, the city hired an electrical engineer, who designed the electrical improvements with the goal of savings and improved safety. Bicentennial Time Capsule to Be Buried October 27

North Royalton will officially turn 200 years old on Oct. 27. To mark the special occasion, residents are invited to attend the public burial of a bicentennial time capsule on the North Royalton Historical Society property located at 13759 Ridge Road. The time capsule burial marks the end of the City’s summer-long bicentennial celebration, which included a formal gala ball at Carrie Cerino’s Ristorante and Party Center, community picnic at Memorial Park and honorary mention at the Pet Carnival, annual Community Festival and other cherished civic events. Gathering for a blessing of the animals

The congregation at Saint Albert the Great Church got a little more varied and noisier than usual October 7 with barks, whines, yips and meows. In honor of the Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and ecology, the Wallings Road parish held a special ceremony for the blessing of pets. Hundreds of dogs in several breeds and sizes – and even a brave cat and pet rabbit – gathered on the lawn alongside their owners to receive a blessing from Pastor Edward Estok. The Caring Closet provides a lending hand in a heartfelt way

Nestled inside the busy hallways of North Royalton High School is a small space that does very big things. The Caring Closet is a special storeroom that stocks clothing, shoes, food, toiletries, school supplies and other items for students in need. What has become an annual tradition, North Royalton Ward 3 Councilman Dan Langshaw and Broadview Heights Ward 2 Councilman Brian Wolf will bet for charity on which team will win the Golden Shoe Game on Friday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. when the Bears defend the Golden Shoe against the BBHHS Bees. St. Albert the Great to Adopt Social Sentinel service

Saint Albert the Great School has joined the ranks of being one of the first schools in Ohio to adopt Social Sentinel, a service that scans daily social media posts – one billion to be exact – and alerts staff if any indicators of harm and violence are found. Kmetz making the most of his pass receptions

Looking at the numbers halfway through the North Royalton Football season, senior wide receiver/defensive back Bradley Kmetz is making the most of his time on the field. In the first five games, Kmetz caught 11 passes for 337 yards and six touchdowns. Brad is averaging slightly more than 30 yards a catch. Most receivers will tell you that if you average over 20 yards a catch, you’re having a great season. King and Queen are crowned at Homecoming

North Royalton High School celebrated Homecoming during halftime of the Bears-Twinsburg Football Game on Friday September 21. Named as the North Royalton Homecoming Queen, was Colleen Galloway. Colleen plays on the North Royalton Volleyball team and also on a Junior Olympic Volleyball team. She also finds time to serve up some delicious pizza at East of Chicago in Brecksville.
