Fun tradition and friendly rivalry between N Royalton and Broadview Hts. councilmen grows

What has become an annual tradition, North Royalton Ward 3 Councilman Dan Langshaw and Broadview Heights Ward 2 Councilman Brian Wolf will bet for charity on which team will win the Golden Shoe Game on Friday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. when the Bears defend the Golden Shoe against the BBHHS Bees. Typically, the loser of the bet wears the winning team’s T-shirt as part of his dress attire for a future city council meeting and then makes a donation to winner’s charity of choice. St. Albert the Great to Adopt Social Sentinel service

Saint Albert the Great School has joined the ranks of being one of the first schools in Ohio to adopt Social Sentinel, a service that scans daily social media posts – one billion to be exact – and alerts staff if any indicators of harm and violence are found. Kmetz making the most of his pass receptions

Looking at the numbers halfway through the North Royalton Football season, senior wide receiver/defensive back Bradley Kmetz is making the most of his time on the field. In the first five games, Kmetz caught 11 passes for 337 yards and six touchdowns. Brad is averaging slightly more than 30 yards a catch. Most receivers will tell you that if you average over 20 yards a catch, you’re having a great season. In all-purpose yards, (rushing, pass receiving, kickoff returns and punt returns) Kmetz is averaging 115 yards a game, second on the team. His six touchdowns are also second on the team. ....

King and Queen are crowned at Homecoming

North Royalton High School celebrated Homecoming during halftime of the Bears-Twinsburg Football Game on Friday September 21. Named as the North Royalton Homecoming Queen, was Colleen Galloway. Colleen plays on the North Royalton Volleyball team and also on a Junior Olympic Volleyball team. She also finds time to serve up some delicious pizza at East of Chicago in Brecksville. Colleen hopes to attend either the University of Toledo or Baldwin-Wallace University to study early childhood education. Residents welcome fall with Harvest Fest

“The city of North Royalton is one big family. You see grandparents, parents, children and even teenagers walking around having a good time.” Those are the feelings of North Royalton resident Joyce Harrison. Grant allows NR Police Dept. to reopen K-9 unit

It’s been nearly 20 years since the North Royalton Police Department has had a K-9, but that’s about to change thanks to a grant program by Ohio native and Pittsburgh Steelers’ Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Yes, thanks to a Pittsburgh Steelers football player, or rather the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation, the local police department will re-establish its K-9 unit as a recipient of a $12,800 grant. State issues report card results

On September 13, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) released the 2017-18 Local Report Card for all districts in the state of Ohio. The district’s Quality Profile was also released. This year, the report card from the ODE included an overall letter grade to each district. The grade is based on a weighted percentage of the following components: Achievement, Progress, Gap Closing, Graduation Rate, K-3 Literacy and Prepared for Success. Council looks at short-term rental moratorium

City Council introduced legislation at its September 18 meeting that would place a moratorium on short term rentals of residential real estate. The measure was introduced by President of Council, Larry Antoskiewicz and Ward 5 Council Representative Cheryl Hannan and co-sponsored by Ward 4 Council Representative Paul Marnecheck. North Royalton resident and Giant Eagle employee Thomas Stredney walked the North Royalton Health Fair & Family Expo Sept. 29 like the hundreds of others in attendance.
