Bicentennial Community Festival was a dynamite good time for all

Whether it is the funnel cakes, the carnival games, the children’s rides, the parade, fireworks or simply the time with family, attending the Community Festival, organized and sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, is always a cherished way for residents to close out another wonderful summer in North Royalton. North Royalton Community Festival August 10-12

Join us at the City Green (corner of Royalton and Ridge Roads) August 10-12, for the North Royalton Bicentennial Community Festival. Three days of great food, live entertainment, rides, games, exhibitors and more. Parade is Sunday at 3 p.m. Fireworks display Sunday at dusk. Fishing Derby had a whale of a turnout

The 15th Annual George Modock, Jr. Memorial Fishing Derby had a record turnout on Friday, July 27. Children ages 7 - 15 were invited to participate in this annual fun event at Memorial Park, 14600 State Road, at the lower pavilion. Prizes, donated by Mrs. George Modock, Jr., were awarded in three age categories: $25 for 1st place in the 7-9 age group; $50 for 1st place in the 10-12 age group; and $75 for 1st place in the 13-15 age group. The 2018 Fishing Derby winners are as follows: Ages 7-9 - First place, Lily Doyle (22-1/2 inch); Second Place, Avery Lukehart; Third Place, Jack Jed ....

Pastor Alex Harris joins Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church

Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church is proud to announce the installation of Pastor Alex Harris, which took place on Sunday, July 22. He joins the church as the Young Adult Pastor. He was ordained at Grace Lutheran Church in Columbus, IN (his home congregation) on Sunday, June 10. Along with preaching and the various other duties of an Associate Pastor, Pastor Harris’ primary responsibilities include overseeing junior high youth ministry, confirmation instruction, senior high youth ministry, and ministry to college students and young adults. Akins Road Fire Cause Still Under Investigation

On July 20, a call came in at about 3:20 a.m. to the North Royalton Fire Department reporting that smoke was coming from an area on Akins Road. When the fire department arrived, the house was fully engulfed and flames were seen coming from the roof. Brunswick and Broadview Heights responded, as well as Hinckley, Strongsville and Middleburg Heights and Brecksville. Parma Heights EMS squad also responded. Broadview Road and Akins Roads were closed to traffic. There was heavy fire in the attic and visible fire on the first floor. There was no one home at the time. The house was being renovated. ....

St. Albert El Salvador Mission marks 20th year of service

Next year, 2019, will mark the 20th anniversary of the Saint Albert the Great El Salvador Mission, a group comprised of parishioners and friends who make annual philanthropic trips to the impoverished, remote Central American nation. Dates have been set for the mission’s next projects, which include on-site medical screenings and water purification efforts. The El Salvador Mission constructed its first community well in early 2000 and has since installed water purification systems at several local schools. “Some of the children walk upwards of 90 minutes to get to school,” said Mission ....

Pet Carnival brings joy to pets and their owners

Everyone has a story – and that includes our family pets. For those gathered July 29 for the 13th Annual Pet Carnival hosted by the North Royalton Animal Hospital and Paws At Play Resort and Daycare, those stories brought the City Green to life as hundreds of pet owners and their furry friends walked the grassy grounds visiting vendors, participating in activities and enjoying the warm, sunny weather. “She gave me life,” said Brendalee Salk of her 1-year-old Teacup Chihuahua, Miss Prissy, dressed in a ship anchor bandana. “She gives unconditional love.” Salk, a resident o ....

Bicentennial time capsule to be buried in October

Efforts to unearth a time capsule buried 50 years ago as part of the city’s sesquicentennial celebration have come to a halt. The time capsule, buried Sept. 23, 1969, at the G.A.R. Soldiers Monument in North Royalton Cemetery, was reportedly moved to a new location due to land restrictions set by the V.F.W., the owner of the burial site, which was unknown by city officials at the time of the capsule’s burial, according to an article in the Royalton Recorder dated Oct. 23, 1969. However, no record was kept as to the time capsule’s new location and officials haven’t come across any arc ....

Council eyes placing removal of term limits on ballot

When it comes to limiting the number of terms a political position may serve, does it ensure that corruption will not take place, or by doing so, do the voters give up the opportunity to vote on a candidate they feel most qualified? Therein lies the question. North Royalton Council will be voting in September whether to pose the question to North Royalton voters. The end of an era – Low participation forces cancellation of Festival Pageant

They say that all good things come to an end. For the North Royalton Festival Pageant, that is true, unfortunately. The Festival Pageant did not draw enough contestants to fill the court, and the difficult decision was made to suspend the event. For many years the beauty pageant was a vibrant event that drew dozens of young ladies and little boys to vie for the title of Miss, Princess, Sweetheart, Little Miss and Little Prince North Royalton.
