When it comes to limiting the number of terms a political position may serve, does it ensure that corruption will not take place, or by doing so, do the voters give up the opportunity to vote on a candidate they feel most qualified? They say that all good things come to an end. For the North Royalton Festival Pageant, that is true, unfortunately. The Festival Pageant did not draw enough contestants to fill the court, and the difficult decision was made to suspend the event. JOA Picnic in the Park brings folks together for a good cause

The community has a lot of love for John Owen Dumm, a 14-year-old North Royalton teenager diagnosed in 2008 with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a fatal disease characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. Over the years, his story has garnered the support of thousands throughout northeast Ohio and this summer’s 11th annual “Picnic in the Park” event at German Central in Parma was no different. Let the 200th Birthday festivities begin! The North Royalton Animal Hospital and Paws At Play Resort and Daycare will once again host its annual Pet Carnival on the City Green from 1 to 4 p.m. July 29. School levy set for November ballot

A second resolution was adopted at the North Royalton Board of Education’s July 9 regular meeting to place a resolution declaring it necessary to submit a levy to consolidate the district’s three emergency operating levies in excess of the ten-mill limitation on the November 6, 2018, ballot. “In order to place an issue on the November ballot, two resolutions must be approved by the Board of Education,” according to school officials. “The first is a resolution authorizing the treasurer to certify the millage with the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Officer. City to add more roads on repair list

Due to an increase in tax receipts this year, the city will increase its road budget and spend more than $2 million on the 2018 Road Repair Program. At its June 19 meeting, the North Royalton City Council authorized the Mayor to go out to bid on June 20. Bid openings were to take place on July 5. Earlier this year, the city elected to repave Edgerton Road at a cost of about $650,000, from Bennett Road to Ridge Road and South Akins Road, between Bennett Road and York Road, at a cost of about $240,000. Elementary school building could be set back

Due to the possible need for additional permitting, the new elementary school could be delayed as much as a year. This would be due to the wetlands on the school’s building site, which is located at the southwest corner of State Road and Valley Parkway. Recently, it was determined that property’s wetlands had grown to over a half an acre from 2001 when the Army Corp of Engineers conducted a study that outlined the wetlands on that site.
