Turnpike noise wall to be completed this fall

Although the progress of the Ohio Turnpike Sound Wall Project has been delayed, the construction is still on target, expected to be completed later this year. City Engineer Mark Schmitzer said that he received notification last year that indicated that the bidding process for the project, which was originally scheduled to take place in June of last year, will be pushed to late summer/early fall, due to slope issues on the west bend. Two more local businesses are burglarized

Two more burglaries have taken place since the December 27 theft from Accurate Arms and Armor, located at 6834 Bunker Road. On January 3 a man and woman in their 40’s from Cleveland smashed the front doors of Discount Drug Mart, located at 5500 Wallings Road and stole cigarettes. Both appear to have lived together. Several days later, on January 8, the pair, and a 50-year-old man broke into the front door of Joe D’s Beverage, located at 5261 Wallings Road. At that location, they stole cigarettes and alcohol. North Royalton City Schools receives grant from Ohio EPA to purchase two school buses

North Royalton City Schools applied for a grant last fall from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to assist in the replacement of two school buses for next school year. The district’s grant was one of 29 that were awarded state-wide. North Royalton City Schools will receive $178,418.00 to assist in the replacement of four 2005 school buses with four new diesel-powered school buses. Each bus costs approximately $90,000 so with the grant, the district will be able to purchase two of the four that need to be replaced. School District holds special meeting to discuss future of bond issue

Voters within the North Royalton City School District may see the return of a bond issue on the May 2 ballot. Ward 5 Councilman resigns, creates vacancy

Ward 5 Councilman Steve Muller announced his resignation at the December 20 City Council Meeting. Muller said that he was moving out of the city because he was recently married and moving closer to his wife’s job. The position was officially vacated on January 1, 2017. City Council is now looking for a replacement of the Ward 5 position, which is in effect until the end of this year. Muller was in the middle of his third term. Look for increase in your sewer bill

This year, residents will again see an increase in their sewer bills. This is the final increase in the city’s rate schedule, that was adopted in 2012. The new rate goes from $81.45 to $84.71, starting this year. The sewer rate schedule was based on results from a $15,000 sewer rate study done by wastewater consultant, Montgomery Watson Harza. At that time, the rate was $52.52 per 1,000 cubic feet of water (MCF) It was agreed at that time to form the new sanitary sewer rates, per MCF, to be $67.67 for 2012, $73.41 in 2013, $75.30 in 2014, $78.32 in 2015, $81.45 in 2016 and $84.71 in 2017. Reward offered in gun shop robbery

North Royalton Police and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are working to solve a recent robbery at the Accurate Arms and Ammunition, located at 6834 Bunker Road. The theft took place at about 4.15 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27. Surveillance video shows the burglars smashing their way into the store with what is believed to be a sledgehammer.
