Soldier thanks community for sending love from home

This Monday, Memorial Day, we will honor United States Armed Forces fallen soldiers. These men and women made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our freedom. Many of us will attend a parade, picnic, and participate in other activities that are possible because throughout our nation’s history, brave men and women have fought for these privileges.

Promoters hope for good Relay for Life turnout

The American Cancer Society is inviting the community to the Relay for Life event being held at the North Royalton YMCA from noon on May 31 until 6 a.m. on June 1. This year’s event got off to a slow start and organizers are hoping things will pick up and there will be a good turnout for this good cause. The Relay for Life is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer. Teams individually come up with ideas to raise funds which are then used for cancer research.

The North Royalton Fire Department is sponsoring its 18th Annual Safety Fair and Open House on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Safety Fair will be held at the North Royalton Fire Station, 7000 Royalton Road, and will kick off EMS week and include several special exhibits pertaining to safety issues relating to children. The North Royalton Community Emergency Response Team (NRCERT) holds to the truth that when disaster strikes people and their needs should be placed above all else. Established in 2003, NRCERT was created to assist the North Royalton safety forces in the event of a disaster or emergency. NRCERT currently has approximately 110 members from the community who are committed to North Royalton and its citizens. SPRAGUE ROAD TO GET A FACE LIFT

The North Royalton City Council unanimously adopted legislation at their April 15 meeting that would allow the final leg of the Sprague Road project to proceed. The repaving of the final section of Sprague Road, just under two miles, from State Road to Broadview Road, had been put on hold last year.

NRHS MARCHING BAND MEMBERS STAR IN DISNEY PARADE

Band members discovered the magic of Disney as they performed for an audience of park guests at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort, Florida during spring break, March 25 through March 29. Disney is home to plenty of stars, but the students shined as they marched down Main Street U.S.A. giving their best performance. Before the band headed to palm trees and sunshine, members attended mandatory practices to prepare. Their hard work paid off as they were in the spotlight of entertaining vacationers.
