School Superintendent shares how Calamity Days are determined

Snow, ice and cold have luckily not been too much of an issue in November, December and most of January, but, is now starting to affect daily decisions of the North Royalton School District. EMS levy is approved for the May ballot

North Royalton voters will see an EMS levy on the May 3 ballot, as the North Royalton City Council adopted legislation 6-0 at its February 1 meeting. Ward 4 Council Representative Jeremy Dietrich was absent from that meeting. The legislation was the second step necessary to place the measure on the May ballot. City looking to make a splash this summer

The City of North Royalton continues its execution of their Memorial Park Master Plan, which, hopefully will make a real splash with kids this summer. This project is one of several that is taking place at Memorial Park this year. The North Royalton City Council unanimously adopted legislation that accepts the bid of Cook Paving and Construction Company to handle the splash pad project, which includes a shade structure. North Royalton City Schools honor two dedicated staff members with the Crystal Starfish Award

On January 14, 2022, North Royalton City Schools announced the winners of the first semester’s Crystal Starfish Award presented by First Federal of Lakewood. At North Royalton High School, 11th Grade Intervention Specialist Tennille Haugh was presented with the Crystal Starfish Teacher Award.  Besides the award, she also received a $250 Professional Development Grant from First Federal of Lakewood. The first meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Monday, January 10. The Board adopted the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Tax Budget. It then approved transfers from the NRHS Student Council Fund to the following: Baseball Club, Track Club, Girls Basketball Club, Cross Country Club, Boys Football Club, each in the amount of $144.13. The Board then approved the 2021-22 appropriation adjustment from the 499 Miscellaneous State Grant Fund, from $150.96 to $21,690.42. Assistant School Superintendent Jim Presot to resign in July

The North Royalton Board of Education approved the resignation of Jim Presot at the end of his contract, July 31,2022. Presot is the Assistant to the Superintendent and has worked with the North Royalton School District since 1997. Presot had actually retired at the end of 2018, but was re-employed when the Board approved a new contract in January, 2019, to be effective February 1, 2019 through July 31, 2022. Valley Vista Elementary School property is for sale

The North Royalton City School District is in the process of selling the remaining elementary school property that has been vacated after the opening of the new North Royalton Elementary School this past fall. Presently, the Valley Vista school property is up for sale. The district has decided to keep Royal View, but the Albion Elementary property will also be placed up for sale. Council discusses EMS Levy replacement

The North Royalton City Council adopted legislation at its January 18 City Council meeting that is the first step in placing an EMS Levy on the May 3 ballot. Fire Chief Bob Chegan gave a presentation on the proposed replacement to Council at its January 18 Safety Committee meeting, which took place before the Council meeting that evening. Izzy hits North Royalton with a punch

A winter snow storm, named Storm Izzy by The Weather Channel, hit North Royalton, starting at about 6 p.m. the night of Sunday, January 16, with continual snow and drifting through the night and into the morning of Monday, January 17. The storm closed schools and delayed rubbish removal. Izzy’s western edge hit the Greater Cleveland area, pulling moisture off Lake Erie and resulting in lake-effect snow that recorded up to 25 inches of snow in some northeast Ohio areas for the end of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. Morrill Worcester was a 12-year-old paper boy for the Bangor Daily News when he won a trip to Washington D.C. His first trip to our nation’s capital was one he would never forget, especially Arlington National Cemetery that made an indelible impression on him.
