One Year In: Parenting lessons learned from the pandemic

Today – March 11 – marks exactly one year since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Covid-19 a global pandemic. As a journalist and working mom of three children, I’m especially preferential to how this time has impacted families. While it’s safe to say that we’ve all come a long way since those first few terrifying and agonizing weeks of Spring 2020, there are still many who continue to struggle and cope. And for more still, the learning journey and daily rigmarole continues to evolve. I know this is true for me. My husband and I are working together as a team more than e ....

“People will be able to plan for proms; they’ll be able to plan for graduation. There’s no reason these events cannot occur if we follow basic safety protocols.” These words, spoken by Gov. The Royalton Recorder reached out to local principals for updates on end-of-year school events like prom, commencement, field trips, picnics, special assemblies, and the like. “We are working hard towards providing as many of our traditional senior and end-of-t ....

Frigid weather causes increase in water main breaks

Water main breaks are unpredictable, although a big factor is weather. The colder the weather is for an extended period of time; the more water main breaks seem to occur. Breaks can also occur when there is a sudden increase in water pressure in a water main, such as when a fire hydrant is closed too suddenly. So far, 2021 has not been kind in this regard, as it has been reported that about sixteen breaks have occurred since the beginning of this year. “This last couple months, we’ve had numerous breaks,” said Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz. He adds that the “Cleveland Water Department ....

UH assistant manager wins game ticket of a lifetime

When Catherine Wilson received an email at work alerting her that she had won a free ticket to Super Bowl LV, she figured it was spam and quickly deleted it. Then came the follow-up phone call with the same news. “I thought it was a prank call,” said Wilson, a North Royalton resident who works as emergency room assistant nurse manager at UH Cleveland Medical Center. But it was no prank. Together with the Cleveland Browns, University Hospitals had selected three local health care heroes to be the team’s special guests at the Feb. 7 Super Bowl in Tampa Bay and Wilson was one of them, al ....
