Citywide Sidewalk Sale kicks off bicentennial celebration

The Royalton Recorder is kicking off the bicentennial celebration by sponsoring a two-day Business Sidewalk Sale event on July 28 and 29. Local businesses throughout the community will be open for visiting customers. A number of businesses will be holding outdoor tent sales and special promotions all in honor of promoting local commerce, while others will invite you inside their establishments to view their offerings. City to add more roads on repair list

Due to an increase in tax receipts this year, the city will increase its road budget and spend more than $2 million on the 2018 Road Repair Program. At its June 19 meeting, the North Royalton City Council authorized the Mayor to go out to bid on June 20. Bid openings were to take place on July 5. Earlier this year, the city elected to repave Edgerton Road at a cost of about $650,000, from Bennett Road to Ridge Road and South Akins Road, between Bennett Road and York Road, at a cost of about $240,000. The North Royalton Chamber of Commerce was formed a hundred years ago to assist in creating an environment in which local businesses could prosper and owners would work as one to further the area’s economic wellbeing. St. Albert the Great School again recognized as a ‘Top Workplace’

Saint Albert the Great Roman Catholic School has again earned a very special nod in the Plain Dealer’s 2018 Top Workplaces survey. Elementary school building could be set back

Due to the possible need for additional permitting, the new elementary school could be delayed as much as a year. This would be due to the wetlands on the school’s building site, which is located at the southwest corner of State Road and Valley Parkway. Recently, it was determined that property’s wetlands had grown to over a half an acre from 2001 when the Army Corp of Engineers conducted a study that outlined the wetlands on that site. Principal dunked to help young patients

As a reward for raising more than $15,000 for the American Heart Association and Jump Rope for Heart, students at Valley Vista Elementary got the chance to dunk not only their Principal Jeff Hill in a dunk tank, but also numerous building staff including Head Custodian Bob Rodriguez and Music Teacher Sarah Burrows. Survey hopes to spur interest in civic groups

Residents are being asked to participate in a civic engagement survey to gain an understanding revolved around the city’s civic groups. The online survey is the brainchild of North Royalton City Council President Larry Antoskiewicz and Ward 3 City Councilman Dan Langshaw. The idea started when the two discussed the need for increased membership. It seemed to resonate from most of the city’s groups. North Royalton takes Silver in 2018 high school rankings

North Royalton High School earned a silver medal in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 Best High Schools rankings, which is earned by only about 11% of high schools across the country. According to the study done by U.S. News & World Report, North Royalton High School ranked 114 in Ohio high schools, in a list containing 832 Ohio high schools. The national magazine reviewed 20,548 schools, where North Royalton ranked 2,031. The data was based on the 2015-2016 school year. The national rankings were based on a three-step process. School Levy Aimed for November Ballot

The North Royalton Board of Education unanimously adopted a resolution that is the first step in placing a levy on the November Ballot. The levy will consolidate the district’s three emergency operating levies that are set to expire in 2019, 2020 and 2022. The consolidation of the levies will then take the form of a renewal that will be “at no additional cost to homeowners,” according to North Royalton School District Treasurer, Biagio Sidoti. BMV changes driver’s license procedures

Starting July 2, there will be changes in the procedures on obtaining a driver’s license. The changes are being made to comply with federal regulations and ensure greater security and identification protection. In the past, if one is renewing a license, they would bring in their own license, take an eye test, get their picture taken, answer a few questions and leave with a brand new license.
