Lady Bears softball growing by leaps and bounds

This has been a big turnaround year for the North Royalton Girls Softball team. In 2017, the Lady Bears were closer to the bottom of the Suburban League’s National Conference standings than the top. This year, North Royalton has flipped the switch, softball wise. In 2018, North Royalton finished play in the National Conference with a record of nine wins and five losses. Exactly where the Lady Bears will finish in the Suburban League is dependent upon other teams, it will definitely be in the top half of the National Conference Standings. A fun and educational day at the NRFD Safety Fair

When it comes to emergencies, being aware and prepared is key, and that’s exactly what the North Royalton Fire Department Open House & Safety Fair aimed to teach its attendees. Community supports graduating seniors with scholarship awards

The 81st annual North Royalton Honors and Awrds Presentation was held on May 10 at the North Royalton High School Dan Calabrese Center for the Performing Arts. Scholarships totaling $70,000 were presented to 83 high school seniors by business owners, civic organizations and individuals. Mock crash demonstrates dangers of distracted driving

On the sunny morning of Wednesday, May 2, the senior class of North Royalton High School gathered at Memorial Park. Sirens began to blare as ambulances and police vehicles rushed to the scene of two crashed vehicles that were revealed from underneath a tarp. Inside of those cars were eight of North Royalton’s senior students, with individuals passed out at the wheel and unmoving across the hood of the car. NRHS wins 2018 Drug Education School Challenge Award

The Drug Education School Challenge (D.E.S.C.) Award was presented this year for the first time at the 111th Ohio PTA Annual Convention on April 22, in collaboration with the Cuyahoga County Opiate Task Force Education Subcommittee and Ohio PTA. The purpose of the award is to publicly recognize leadership schools throughout Ohio that are providing comprehensive drug education, prevention and intervention programs for both students and parents. City receives grant for cemetery update

The city recently received word that they will receive funding for some improvements to one of its cemeteries. Community Development Director Tom Jordan said that the cemetery upgrades were included in a grant application for a Capital Grant Request to the State of Ohio. The city will receive $100,000 of the $580,000 it asked for. North Royalton’s main cemetery has been targeted for a sprucing up over the past few years by the City administration and projects the renovation to be completed this summer. The cemetery is located at 6170 Royalton Road, and is one of two cemeteries in North Roya ....

Abbey Road closed until Fall for bridge construction

Motorists may have to alter their plan to travel on Abbey Road near the Sprague Road intersection. A portion of Abbey Road is closed to the through traffic of motorists effective May 1, due to bridge construction. The construction is being done through Cuyahoga County. The bridge, which spans the Baldwin Creek and located just south of Sprague Road will be removed in order to replace a box beam that is located under it. Rt. 82 widening has begun at West 130

The start of the widening of the remaining portion of Rt. 82 through North Royalton has finally begun. Phase 1 of the project, from just east of West 130 Street to just east of Abbey Road is currently underway, according to Community Development Director Tom Jordan. The overall project will convert the current Rt. 82 area from a two lane road to a three lane road, with 6 foot sidewalks and seven-foot tree lawns on each side, as well as two 15-foot lanes and an 11-foot turning lane, completing a span of 78 feet.
