The COVID-19 pandemic has hit North Royalton businesses, especially small businesses, as it has across the country. All but essential businesses have been closed, but some, especially restaurants, have remained open for business, but only for take out and delivery. Federal and state officials have set up programs to assist, and members of the community continue to patronize these businesses, which helps. The North Royalton Chamber of Commerce also has information that may assist those businesses in need.
According to Tom Jordan, North Royalton Community Development Director, the Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program fund has been set up, offering up to a $2 million loan for costs associated with the pandemic. “Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jon Husted and Ohio Development Services Agency Director Lydia Mihalik announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has qualified the State of Ohio for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program,” according to Jordan. “As a result, Ohio businesses and non-profits economically impacted by the outbreak of COVID-19 may now apply for a low-interest loan of up to $2 million to help pay for fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that can’t be paid because of the disaster’s impact. You can apply for the loan online at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela/, which is recommended, or by calling 1-800-659-2955 to have an application mailed to you.
To expedite the application process, applicants should have ready complete copies of their most recent federal income tax return and a completed and signed IRS Form 4506T, which authorizes the release of tax information. Additional information to have available would be a schedule of liabilities, personal financial statement, monthly sales figures, a current year-to-date profit-and-loss statement, and a year-end profit-and-loss statement and balance sheet for that tax year if the most recent federal income tax return has not been filed.” Jordan said that the first $10,000 of this loan can be advanced within three days of application. Whether or not your loan is approved, the $10,000 is a grant. The balance will then be a loan, with interest and a term.
Another program for small businesses is the Payroll Protection Progam for small businesses that have employees. You can get two and half times your average monthly salary expenses,” he said.
Another program is taking shape for those who are self-employed and receive money through a 1099. Details will be posted as soon as they are received. More information on these programs can be found via links at the city’s website. “As efforts to combat the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus continue, the City of North Royalton, in addition to Gov. DeWine and his administration, will continue to identify ways to support the state’s small businesses and nonprofits,” said Jordan. “For the latest and most accurate information regarding the COVID-19 outbreak, please visit Coronavirus.Ohio.Gov, call 1-833-4-ASK-ODH and visit North Royalton’s website at northroyalton.org and our Facebook page at City of North Royalton OH.”
Even though it has been a strain on community businesses, many have dug deep to reach out to the community. Niko’s Bar and Gyros donated 100 lunches to workers at the Cleveland Clinic and plans to donate to a hospital each week. Augie’s Pizza delivered over 400 bagged lunches for St. Herman’s Homeless shelter on April 3 and was planning another delivery on Good Friday, April 10. Family First has reduced the hourly rate they charge for people who need assistance for family members. Kavana’s Kitchen is giving away $50 gift cards for fifty days. They are also streaming live music on Saturday evenings on their Facebook page. Tony Maloneys donated corned beef sandwiches to service workers that lost their jobs.
Please patronize local businesses! Many are offering take-out and delivery. Check with their websites and Facebook pages for menu offerings.
