The July meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Monday, July 8.
The Board approved the Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan grants for 2019-20 as listed.
• Title I-A Improving Basic Programs $351,410.46
• Title II-A Improving Teacher Quality $93,395.25
• Title III LEP $ 19,829.36
• Title IV-A Student Support and Academic Enrichment $ 24,760.55
• IDEA-B Special Education $890,841.73
• IDE Early Childhood Special Education $ 21,653.69
The Board approved the following transfers: from 001-General Fund to 950 Athletics, $55,000
(Yearly initial fund transfer from GF to Athletics)
The Board approved change funds for those school operations requiring them for the 2019-20 school year: Middle School Media Center $60, High School Media Center $40, Albion Cafeteria $25, Royal View Cafeteria $25, Valley Vista Cafeteria $25, Middle School Cafeteria $175, High School Cafeteria $400, High School Letterman’s Club $50, High School/Middle School Athletic Dept. $6,000, High School Student Activity Office $30, Middle School Book Store $150, Middle School Office $50, The Board approved the following fees for the 2019-20 school year: Kindergarten, $21, Grades 1-4, $36, Grades 5-7, $41, Grade 8, $51 + World Language Fee if applicable: Spanish I $8, French I $15, German I $5
The Board approved the following athletic event ticket prices for the 2019-20 school year:
• All Sports, $7 for Adults (all sports) and Students (football only) at Gate
• JV/Varsity, $4 for Students Pre-sale (K-12) for Football
• Varsity, $4 for Students (pre-sale and gate) for all sports other than football
• North Royalton Senior Citizens free with Identification (62 or older)
• JV-Only, $3 for Adults
• Freshmen-Only, $2 for Students (K-12)
• 7th/8th Grade, $2 for Adults; $1.00 for Students
• Student Pass , $50

“Things are on track with construction, since the last time we spoke,” said School Superintendent, Greg Gurka. “Actually, site work has begun today at the elementary school, so if you drive buy you’d see some big Tonka trucks. They have started moving dirt around, so we’re excited about that.” He went on to talk about the new employees and change of assignments in the district.
The Board approved the following agreements for the 2019- 2020 school year:
Maxim Healthcare Services; Invo Healthcare Associates; Education Alternatives.
The Board accepted the following resignations/retirement/change of assignments:
Resignations: Dalia Erney/High School Art Teacher/effective July 2, 2019.
Change of Assignments:
• Brian Clark from Maintenance Worker to Maintenance Supervisor, effective August 1, 2019 through July 31, 2021, at a base salary of $66,952.
• Tricia Pozsgai from Middle School Assistant Principal to Director of Technology, effective August 1, 2019 through July 31 2021, at a base salary of $92,500.
The Board approved the following appointments as certificated/licensed and classified employees:
Certificated Employees:
Alyssa Emery, Music Teacher/Albion Elementary; Taylor Popek, Intervention Specialist/Middle School; Melissa Rhodes, Psychologist/District; Lauren Stefancin, Intervention Specialist/High School.

The Board recommended the following non-licensed individuals, as recommended for employment:

The Board authorized the following plate breakfast, lunch and milk prices effective for the 2019-20 school year:
• Elementary Breakfast $2.25, Lunch $3.50
• Middle School Breakfast $2.25, Lunch $3.75
• High School Breakfast $2.25/$2.50, Lunch $3.75
• Milk $ .50
The Board authorized the use of buses for the 2019-20 school year to transport:
• High School band members and others involved to football games and band contests in Northeast Ohio area;
• Graduating seniors, band members, and others involved to the Key Bank State Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio for Commencement in May, and other activities pertaining to graduation; and
• Students and others involved in field trips.
The following gifts and donations were accepted and acknowledged:
“-Retired music teacher, Beth Iafiliola, donated two new curriculum books, valued at $260, to Albion Elementary.
-Mr. Divots donated 500 mini golf coupons, valued at $5.00 each to Royal View Elementary.
-The North Royalton High School Athletic Boosters donated a variety of equipment and uniforms valued at $37,020.52, to the athletic department at North Royalton High School.”
The Board appointed Terry DeLap as Board Member to complete the unexpired term of Susan Clark, effective July 8, 2019 through December 31, 2019.
The next regular Board meeting will take place on Monday, August 12, at 7 p.m. at the North Royalton Board of Education building conference room.
At the July 8 North Royalton Board of Education meeting, the Board appointed North Royalton Middle School assistant principal Tricia Pozsgai as the District’s new director of technology. In this new role, Pozsgai will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance in the development, implementation, coordination and effective use of technology to accomplish the mission of the District and to promote the effective use of instructional technology throughout the schools. She has been with North Royalton City Schools since 2014. Prior to joining the District, she was a teacher at Nordonia Middle School and the athletic director at Heritage Middle School in Painesville. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Baldwin-Wallace College, a Master of Science degree in Mathematics Education from Walden University and her administrative licensure from Ursuline College.
North Royalton High School assistant principal Kevin J. Atkins was named as an assistant principal at North Royalton Middle School, replacing Pozsgai. Atkins has been with the District since 2015. Prior to joining North Royalton City Schools, Atkins was the assistant principal/co-curricular director (grades 6-12) for Cuyahoga Heights Local Schools. He also was the health and physical education instructor and district department chairperson at Avon Lake High School. Prior to that, he worked in Olmsted Falls School District as a high school health and physical education Instructor. Atkins received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, Health and Physical Education from Baldwin-Wallace University and his Master of Arts degree in Education and a Masters in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College. Atkins also went to Cleveland State University for the Inspired Principal’s Leadership Program, Educational Leadership, Licensure in Administration.
The Board appointed Brian Clark as maintenance supervisor. Clark has been with the District since 2007 as a maintenance worker. He has developed an extensive knowledge of the District’s buildings and systems. His skillset, knowledge of the District and relationships with current staff will serve him well in this new role. He will administer, coordinate and facilitate the effective delivery of maintenance services for the District.
“Mrs. Pozsgai and Mr. Atkins have been valuable employees and we look forward to their continued contributions in their new roles with the District,” said President Dr. John Kelly, North Royalton Board of Education. “Mr. Clark also has been a valuable employee for many years. He is more than capable of filling the shoes of our long-time maintenance supervisor Dave Albert. Congratulations and good luck to all three in their new positions.”
