The September meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on September 14.
The Board established, then approved the following 2020-21 appropriation adjustments:
Fund 510-9021 Coronavirus Relief Fund to $206,166.59
Fund 510-9121 Broadband Ohio Connectivity Fund to $151,466.16.
School Superintendent Greg Gurka stated that “we started the school year on September 1, remotely, and it started like no other in my lifetime, but between everything that’s going around us, we’re moving forward and things are going well.” He noted that enrollment stands at 3,970 students as of September 11, which is a net loss of 44 students since last year. Eight-four percent of students will be participating in the traditional schooling option and coming to school and sixteen percent will be utilizing the remote learning option. Gurka noted that the reopening plan information can be seen on the district’s website www.northroyaltonsd.org.
The Board authorized an execution of memorandum of understanding with the Ohio Association of Public School Employees/AFSCME Chapter 4 (Local 231), that the Superintendent, Treasurer and Board President are authorized and directed to execute a memorandum of understanding with the Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE Local #231) for the purpose of furloughing employee hours as necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Board approved an agreement with PSI Affiliates, Inc./PSI Associates, INC. – St. Albert the Great for the 2020-21 school year for auxiliary services in the amount of $484,511.49 and appoint Julie Bogden as administrator, for Registered Nurses Services, Speech/Language Pathologist Services, Intervention Specialist Services, Educational Aide Services, Remedial/Title 1 Teacher Services, School Psychology/Psychology Services, and Counselor/Social Worker Services.
The Board approved an agreement wity PSI Affiliates, Inc./PSI Associates, INC. – St. Albert the Great for the 2020-21 school year for auxiliary services in the amount of $11,448.56, appointing Julie Bogden as administrator. Services are for a Remedial/Title 1 Teacher.
The Board approved participation with STEPS Educational Group for special education programing for the 2020-21 school year.
The Board approved a reimbursement agreement for certain expenses connected with the provision of educational services.
The Board accepted the following resignations:
Lillian Bender, Middle School/Team Leader Grade 8-Purple, effective August 18, 2020.
Gerald Bentley, Cleaner/Middle School, effective September 2, 2020.
Corey Danaher, Cleaner/Middle School, effective September 24, 2020.
Carolyn Packard, Substitute Aide, effective September 9, 2020.
Richard Snyder, Bus Driver, effective August 18, 2020.
Ronald Summers, Jr., Substitute Aide, effective September 9, 2020.
The Board approved the unpaid leave of absence of Sharon Bohland, effective September 9, 2020 until further notice.
The Board approved the appointment of the following extended school year services for June – August 2020, as needed, salary on schedule: Emily Krause (additional four hours at hourly rate)
The Board approved the following for a supplemental contract for the 2020-21 school year, or as indicated, as needed, salary on schedule: Matthew Bosak, Middle School Team Leader Grade 8-Purple; Tennille Haugh, High School/Honors & Awards/Scholarship Coordinator, and additional assignments for Richard Emch, High School/French and Nicholas Woods, Middle School/Algebra.
The Board approved the following school volunteer for the 2020-21 school year or as indicated: Tim Tsirambidis as High School Assistant Boys Soccer Coach for Fall 2020.
The Board accepted and acknowledged the following gifts and donations:
“Warthogs MC Cleveland donated a large quantity of school supplies to North Royalton City Schools.-Meaden & Moore of Cleveland, Ohio, donated three used lap tops, valued at $750, to North Royalton City Schools.-The Consiglio family donated $150 in memory of their daughter Antoinette to the STAC Club at North Royalton High School.”
The next regular Board meeting will take place on Monday, October 12, 7 p.m. at Royal View Elementary School.
