Commercial development projects in the works

Community Development Director Tom Jordan recently presented City Council with an update of Commercial and Industrial/Commercial development around the City. The following are the development projects: Mexican food restaurant, Chipolte has proposed the redevelopment of the former Burger King site at 5702 Royalton Road. Bear, K-9 Police Dog, retires and finds new home

Bear, the North Royalton Police K-9 dog, has been retired. The retirement took place on June 8. North Royalton Police Chief, Keith Tarase, said that the decision was made between himself and Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz. “For the amount of time we were using him, it just didn’t make sense,” said Antoskiewicz. He added that it was a “good situation that the officer that had him, will take him.” Bear was the second K-9 dog at the North Royalton Police Department. Fire Department looking for Food Bank donations

There is still time to drop off donations to the North Royalton Fire Department for their food drive challenge. The summer campaign started July 1 and will continue through the end of this month. The Fire Department is challenging residents to drop off “unexpired” food donations to the lobby of their main station, located at 7000 Royalton Road. All food donated will be distributed among families in our community through the North Royalton Food Pantry located at Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church. Leak is repaired and Splash Pad is now reopened

After another dry run, the North Royalton splash pad has reopened. An announcement was made that the splash pad reopened on Thursday, June 29, just before the Fourth of July holiday. The splash pad is located at Memorial Park, 14600 State Road. Last year, the North Royalton City Council unanimously adopted legislation that accepted the bid of Cook Paving and Construction Company to handle the splash pad project, which includes a shade structure. Council votes to place question on term extensions on ballot

North Royalton voters will have an opportunity in November to decide if they would like to make a charter change. The change would not only increase the term of Ward Council Representatives from two to four years, but, could potentially increase the actual term from its current twelve-year limit. If passed in November, some current members of the North Royalton City Council could potentially increase their term limit from twelve years to eighteen years, if they win in the next two Council elections. Big catches for Fishing Derby winners

The 18th annual George Modock, Jr. Memorial Fishing Derby was held on June 9,at Memorial Park, 14600 State Road at the lower pavilion. There were prizes for the overall winners for first place, second place and third place. All prizes were donated by Mrs. George Modock, Jr. In the 7 - 9 age group, Beau Kish came in first (22.5 inches); Blake Gardnoshka (20.5) came in second; and third place went to Sara Nevzil (7.25 inches). School Board News

The North Royalton Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, June 12. A resident addressed the Board regarding bullying at the Middle School. The Board accepted bids for general liability, fleet and umbrella insurance from Ohio Casualty (Todd Associates/Liberty Mutual Group) for the insurance contract for the District from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. This is part of the Ohio Schools Council Program and the vendor is the preferred vendor based on the Request for Qualifications (RFQs) that were submitted. Council updates Food Truck Legislation

Council unanimously adopted legislation updating ordinances regarding mobile food units, commonly known as food trucks. The North Royalton City Council adopted legislation regulating food trucks in 2021 after over a year of discussions. Up until that point, food trucks were allowed in the city through the use of special event permits.
