Ward 5 Councilman resigns, creates vacancy

Ward 5 Councilman Steve Muller announced his resignation at the December 20 City Council Meeting. Muller said that he was moving out of the city because he was recently married and moving closer to his wife’s job. The position was officially vacated on January 1, 2017. City Council is now looking for a replacement of the Ward 5 position, which is in effect until the end of this year. Muller was in the middle of his third term. Look for increase in your sewer bill

This year, residents will again see an increase in their sewer bills. This is the final increase in the city’s rate schedule, that was adopted in 2012. The new rate goes from $81.45 to $84.71, starting this year. The sewer rate schedule was based on results from a $15,000 sewer rate study done by wastewater consultant, Montgomery Watson Harza. At that time, the rate was $52.52 per 1,000 cubic feet of water (MCF) It was agreed at that time to form the new sanitary sewer rates, per MCF, to be $67.67 for 2012, $73.41 in 2013, $75.30 in 2014, $78.32 in 2015, $81.45 in 2016 and $84.71 in 2017. Reward offered in gun shop robbery

North Royalton Police and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are working to solve a recent robbery at the Accurate Arms and Ammunition, located at 6834 Bunker Road. The theft took place at about 4.15 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27. Surveillance video shows the burglars smashing their way into the store with what is believed to be a sledgehammer. Seven rifles were taken from Accurate Arms, which is a federal firearms licensee, according to the ATF. They then fled in a stolen car. We have looked into the past 75 years that the Royalton Recorder has been in existence. You have read about the changes in North Royalton from rural dairy and grain farmland to semi-rural growing community, to part of the larger housing area known as suburbia or even exurbia. Bowlers take to the lanes for North Royalton High School

After years of requests by parents and students, North Royalton High School is fielding a Bowling Team for the first time. The team is competing in the National Conference of the Suburban League. For those of you who do not know, bowling teams are made up of separate teams of boys and girls. Each match is made up of teams bowling two individual ten-frame games (with five bowlers on a team) and three so-called baker games. A baker game has a line-up of five team members each bowling two frames out of the 10. (1-6, 2-7, 3-8, 4-9 and 5-10). This brings the team element into bowling. The winner ....

Burger King closed for repairs due to fire

On Monday, December 12, a call came in to the North Royalton Fire Department at about 8:30 p.m. from a person driving by the Burger King, located at 5702 Royalton Road. The caller said that heavy smoke was coming from the smoke stack for the grease trap. There were flames in the hood that could not be put out with an extinguisher. Everyone was immediately evacuated. Mutual aid was given by Broadview Heights, who responded with a ladder, as well as Hinckley, Strongsville and Parma. CEI and Columbia Gas also responded. As CMO of the retailer Bear On The Chair, Symonne Harrison helps oversee everything from updating social media to reviewing product design to monitoring sales data. Santa makes grand arrival for Holiday Lighting of the Green

Holidays are rooted in tradition, and by the size of the crowd gathered on the City Green for the North Royalton Holiday Lighting and Christmas Parade, it’s apparent that the popular annual event is one of residents’ favorite customary ways to kick off the season.
