North Royalton residents who have recently received their electric bills may have noticed that their bills seem rather high. They may have thought that the bill was high due to the hot weather experienced this summer. They may be only half correct. Those residents who are NOPEC customers may want to check the “charges from NOPEC” in the middle right section of the first page of the bill. Penalty increased for failure to stop for school bus

Now that the new school year has begun, drivers should keep in mind that when approaching a school bus that is in the process of dropping off children, they need to stop their vehicle. That goes for drivers who are facing the bus, or behind the bus. In 2020, the North Royalton City Council adopted legislation that increased the fine from $500 to $1,000, for those who fail to stop. 136th North Royalton Community Festival returns for a weekend of music, friendship and fun activities

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, we are back and gearing up for the 136th annual North Royalton Community Festival to be held August 26, 27, and 28 on the City Green at the corner of Ridge and Royalton Roads. Hours are 6 - 11 p.m. on Friday; noon-11 p.m. on Saturday; and noon - 9 p.m. on Sunday. Entertainment is lined up at the gazebo stage for the enjoyment of visitors all weekend long. NR Police Dept. receives a grant for new body armor

The North Royalton Police Department recently received notification that they will secure about $11,000 in grant funding for the purchase of body armor and plates for the officers. The grant was secured from the Ohio Law Enforcement Body Armor Program. In 2018, then-Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced the plan to create a new program to help Ohio’s local law enforcement agencies purchase body armor vests. The North Royalton Animal Shelter is a division of the North Royalton Police Department and is located at 11675 Royalton Road. George Stuart is the Senior Animal Control Officer. Old is made new again thanks to Lions

Since April, members of the North Royalton Lions Club have been working diligently to collect plastic with one aim in mind, to have it made into a bench for use in the City. Now, five hundred pounds later, (equal to about 40,500 plastic bags), one of two benches have been constructed and are awaiting the location where they will serve as a brief respite for residents. Lions Club President Dan Lester said that the club has made arrangements with Giant Eagle and the Trex company for the project. Police caution use of Post Office outside mail box

North Royalton residents are being advised not to use the outside mail drop box in front of the North Royalton branch of the Post Office. According to North Royalton Police Chief, the city has been experiencing a number of complaints regarding theft from the outside drop box at the North Royalton Post Office. “They are stealing the mailed checks, altering them, then cashing them,” said Tarase. The North Royalton Police Department has already received over twenty calls and, according to Tarase, they continue to come in daily. Black Bears in North Royalton? Oh My!

There have been several postings on social media about bear sightings here in North Royalton, but George Stuart, North Royalton Senior Animal Control Officer, said that nothing has been reported to North Royalton Animal Control. Black bears can be found in Alaska, Canada and the contiguous United States, and also parts of Mexico.
