City is granted $1M for Memorial Park renovation

The City of North Royalton was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $1 million from the Cuyahoga County Council. Dial 988 for Mental Health Support

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline has been transitioned from a 1-800 phone number to simply dialing 988 for those in need of mental health support. The transition took place on July 16. Crisis care is available through 988 on a 24/7 basis for those having emotional distress, suicidal thoughts or a substance use crisis. It also links to the Veterans Crisis Line. The North Royalton Homesteaders 4-H Club members are readying their projects for the 125th running of the Cuyahoga County Fair (August 9-14) and the 4-H Livestock Auction, which takes place on the last night of the fair, Saturday, August 13, at 7 p.m. North Royalton Homesteaders 4-H Club members will have a record number of large livestock projects for sale at the 4-H Livestock Auction this year, including three steer (Black Angus), four hogs, two lambs, as well as five pens of chickens (known as ‘broilers’) and a pen of market ducks. Council declines shock collar legislation

Council has decided to not include shock collars in the City’s codified ordinances relating to restraining dogs and have taken the measure for discussion off the agenda of the Council Safety Committee. A shock collar, also known as an e-collar electronic collar, or remote training collar, is a dog collar that delivers electrical stimulation of varying intensity and duration to the neck of a dog with a radio-controlled device. School Board rejects Albion School land sale

The North Royalton Board of Education recently amended a previous sale of the Valley Vista property and also rejected the bid on the Albion Road school property, which is located on Albion Road, east of York Road. The Albion property is one of three properties that previously housed elementary schools, and was vacated with the building of the new North Royalton Elementary School, on State Road. Don Filips inducted into the NEO Baseball Coaches Assn.

North Royalton City Schools’ Coach Don Filips was inducted into the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association (NEOBCA) Hall of Fame on June 15 at Canal Park in downtown Akron. It took place before the final All-Star Game. Coach Filips built the North Royalton Bears into a baseball powerhouse during his 14 years as head coach (1994 - 2007). Gas hikes affect more than just filling your tank

As of June 28, according to gasbuddy.com, the price of gasoline in the North Royalton area ranges from $4.86 to $4.97 per gallon for regular, unleaded gas. Council bags county ban on plastic bags

The North Royalton City Council unanimously adopted legislation that bans the Cuyahoga County ban on plastic bags. North Royalton now joins cities, such as Independence, Strongsville and North Olmsted, who have also opted out of the ban. The measure was brought up by Ward 1 Council Representative John Nickell at the May 19 Council Building and Building Codes Committee. W. 130th water main break creates a large sinkhole

A water main break took place on Tuesday, June 21, on West 130th Street between Drake Road and Bennett’s Corners, near Tradewinds, in Ward 5. The break took place at about 2 a.m. Ward 5 Council Representative Dawn Carbone-McDonald said that the break caused flooding for some residents in the area and caused a large sinkhole in the roadway.
