“Girls on the Run” program develops confidence and builds character

Growing up isn’t always easy but an after-school program at the city’s three elementary schools is helping give young girls the tools and confidence they need to navigate the rocky road of adolescence. “Girls on the Run,” a curriculum-based program that uses running to help girls in third and fourth grade develop confidence and self-respect, build character, foster an appreciation for healthy habits and give back to northeast Ohio, meets twice a week for ten weeks and is led by individual teachers and staff at each building. Drum roll please ... Skipping Stones Band heads to Tri C High School Rock Off

Skipping Stones is a local band with a global flare! Jancy Zhang, the band’s female vocalist, is an international student from China who attends Walsh Jesuit High School and is a senior. The remaining members of the band are all local, talented musicians! Alex Manson, percussion, is a freshman at North Royalton High School and plays bass drum #5 for the marching band as well as drums for the Jazz Band. Lilly Dunn, guitar, vocals and sax, is a junior at Brecksville Broadview Hts, High School. She plays Lacross and is a saxophone player in the marching band. Brothers, Danny and Joey Ambrose ....

The second January meeting of the North Royalton City Council took place on Tuesday, January 21. Ward 3 Councilman Dan Langshaw was elected by Council as the Council Pro Tempore, which means that he would represent as the head of City Council, should Council President Paul Marnecheck be absent or unavailable. An ordinance authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with Senior Transportation Connection was unanimously adopted. All North Royalton City School buildings receive Ohio Department of Education Purple Star Designation

The Ohio Department of Education has selected Albion Elementary School, Royal View Elementary School, Valley Vista Elementary School, North Royalton Middle School and North Royalton High School as 2020 Purple Star designees. The Purple Star designation recognizes schools that meet important criteria for serving military-connected students and families, including ensuring students’ unique social, emotional and academic needs are being met. The first meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Monday, January 13. School Superintendent Greg Gurka recognized the North Royalton Board of Education, as a part of Board Recognition Month. “As you know, January is School Board Recognition month,” said Gurka. “Being a Board member is a rather thankless job and one in which you will not get wealthy at.
