Safety Fair and Open House promotes preparedness, education

Outside of the North Royalton Fire Department families and children gathered to meet police dogs and horses, pose for pictures with Cleveland Browns’ mascot Chumps and tour the inside of firetrucks. Meanwhile inside the station, organizations ranging from the North Royalton Family YMCA to the Ohio Department of Transportation-District 12 educated families about their services from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 16. North Royalton City Road Projects scheduled this year

As with every spring, the city turns its sight to maintenance of the road infrastructure.  This year is no different, with the 2026 Road Maintenance Program.  Every year, the city develops a plan of the roads that are in the most need and sets a budget to complete those projects.  Motorists might want to take note, as a change in travel plans may be in order. Council names President, looks for Ward 4 replacement

On May 6, the North Royalton City Council voted to replace the President of Council position with one of their own. Ward 4 Council Representative Mary Gorjanc will serve as the new Council President effective May 8.  They are now in the process of replacing Gorjanc’s Council seat. Paul F. Marnecheck, II is sworn in as new Mayor

On May 1, just after midnight, the new Mayor of North Royalton was sworn in. Paul Marnecheck, previous Council President, was sworn in at the gazebo on the city green. The swearing in was performed by the Honorable Francine Goldberg, Judge, Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court. About fifty people were in attendance. City Council fills vacant Ward 6 seat

The North Royalton City Council has voted in the replacement for the Ward 6 Council Representative position.  Councilman Mike Wos had resigned from the position, effective March 16. City Council fulfilled its requirement to fill the vacancy, or it would have been filled by Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz.  According to the North Royalton City Charter,  “Any vacancy in the Council shall be filled by the remaining members thereof for the unexpired term. School Board News

The April meeting of the North Royalton Board of Education took place on Thursday, April 16. The Board approved transition time for School Superintendent Michael Laub.  Laub had 10 accrued vacation days between April 17 and July 31, 2026, to provide transition support services to Avon Local Schools.  It states that “such leave shall be properly recorded, and during this period, the Superintendent shall continue to fully perform all required duties for the North Royalton City School.” The Board adopted a resolution, estimating the amount of District money, in accordance with “Chapter ....

Wrestlers Make History at OHSAA Wrestling Tourney

The OHSAA’s 89th annual boys’ and 4th annual girls’ state wrestling tournament was held at The Jerome Schottenstein Center in Columbus from March 13-15. This year witnessed some history again for the North Royalton wrestling program. For the first time in the modern era, North Royalton not only qualified three individuals to the prestigious end of season tournament, but all three stood atop the podium on Sunday evening after the conclusion of the finals. City Council defeats Senior Development Proposal

The North Royalton City Council unanimously defeated a request that could have led to a senior development in the southern end of the city.  The proposed 120-unit assisted living complex was proposed for the Bennett’s Corners area. On February 4, the City’s Planning Commission defeated the preliminary site plan, proposed by Vermilion Ohio Acquisitions, LLC, on behalf of NR4C Ventures, LTD, but approved the Conditional Use Permit that would be necessary for the project to move forward.  A conditional use permit is an approval from the City that would allow a particular use on a parcel th ....

North Royalton Boys Basketball Team Makes it to Final Four

The Ohio High School Athletic Association's Division Two Basketball "Final Four" will have been played out by the time you read this edition of the Recorder.  You can read all about the game(s) in Dayton in our next edition. North Royalton won the Kent State Regional to qualify for the "Final Four" thanks to their 40-38 win over Brecksville-Broadview Heights.  Strange how things work out.  The Bears finished second behind the Bees in the Suburban League National Conference standings.  North Royalton lost to Brecksville twice in the regular season, 51-47 and 63-48.
