North Royalton High School student writers and artists showcased in school’s “Inkwell” Magazine

One of North Royalton High School’s (NRHS) most appreciated and valued traditions is the publication of “Inkwell,” a literary magazine celebrating excellence in student writing, art and photography. On December 12, the 2019 edition was unveiled and celebrated in a room filled with family, friends, teachers and staff. Royal Harmony began the evening by singing a medley of holiday songs. City Energy Cost Savings Program nears completion

The North Royalton Energy Cost Savings Program is nearing completion. The plan for the program began last summer. In the early part of 2019, the North Royalton City Council approved two ordinances earlier last April, allowing the city to go forward with the program. The ordinances approved the contract, as well as set up the financing. One ordinance authorized the Mayor to enter into an energy savings performance contract with Leopardo, LLC. The members took their oath of office, as follows: Terry DeLap (January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2021) Heidi Dolezal (January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2023) John Kelly (January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2023) Anne Reinkober (January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2023) Delap was elected to fill the unexpired term of Susan Clark, whose term expires next year. “Night to Shine” event celebrates people with special needs

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and an upcoming event is celebrating the love of all people and the value of life. “Night to Shine,” a prom-style event for individuals with special needs, is set for 6 p.m. Feb. 7 at Michaud’s Catering & Event Center in Strongsville. It is hosted by Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church in partnership this year with Brunswick Reformed Church. Students learn the building process for the new North Royalton Elementary School

Students from Albion, Valley Vista, and Royal View Elementary Schools learned about the building process for their new elementary school from Hammond Construction. The construction company visited the schools from January 14-16. The presentation covered how the land is changed to begin building, the effect of soil on the building as well as some of the vehicles on site. Representatives from Hammond Construction broke down the steps it takes to build a school. City Council approves police cameras

The newly elected North Royalton City Council unanimously adopted legislation that will provide for police cameras for the North Royalton Police Department. “This will increase transparency for the Police Department, ensure criminals get off our streets, and provide additional safety for our officers as they risk their lives to keep us safe,” stated Ward 3 Councilman Dan Langshaw. NR CERT to hold Mardi Gras Fund-raiser

The North Royalton Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will host a Mardi Gras Fund-raiser at The 3 Spot, 13855 Ridge Road in North Royalton, on February 23, 2020 from 4 to 8 p.m. CERT is an organization of more than 100 resident volunteers who are trained to augment the city’s safety forces during any disaster which could strike or impact the city. The threat of terrorism was the initial force behind this Federal initiated program, but CERT may be deployed during other emergencies or disasters, natural or man-made. North Royalton City Schools honor two dedicated staff members with the Crystal Starfish Award

On December 13, North Royalton City Schools announced the winners of the first semester Crystal Starfish Award presented by First Federal Lakewood. At Royal View Elementary School, Response to Intervention Specialist Cathy Rush was presented with the Crystal Starfish Teacher Award. Besides the award, she also received a $250 Professional Development Grant from First Federal Lakewood, a $50 gift certificate to Cleat’s Restaurant and a cookie basket from A Cookie Jules. Three days into 2020, all the indoor cycling bikes in the North Royalton Family YMCA’s cycle studio are filled. YMCA Wellness Coordinator and Power Cycle Instructor Denise Moore shouts words of encouragement – “Get uncomfortable!” and “Push, push, push!” – as members pedal through her challenging workout.
