New Council committees are assigned

Every two years, the President of Council assigns the various Council committees to each City Council member. It is the duty of the Council President to assign the Council Committees of Buildings and Building Codes; Finance; Review and Oversight; Rules and Ordinances; Safety; Streets; Storm Water and Utilities. City holds moving ceremony for Wreaths Across America

All 344 veterans buried in North Royalton Cemetery now have an ornate balsam fir wreath adorning their gravesite thanks to the City’s participation in Wreaths Across America. Dec. 14 marked North Royalton’s first time taking part in the national program that honors the fallen by placing donated wreaths on the graves of veterans at cemeteries across the country. Goodwill abounds during the holidays

It’s the season of goodwill and our local schools, civic organizations and churches are going the extra mile to assist those in need. Students at Valley Vista Elementary School rounded up their extra, unwanted Halloween candy and distributed treat boxes to local veterans’ groups, senior centers and the Malachi Center serving the near West Side of Cleveland, said Principal Jeff Hill. Students dance the night away at Daddy, Daughter and Other Cool Dudes Dance

Elementary students danced the night away at the first annual Daddy, Daughter and Other Cool Dudes Dance put on by the North Royalton High School softball team on Friday, November 22. The dance started as a fund-raiser for the team but turned into so much more - a memorable community event. The ordinary middle school gym was transformed into a modern, glowing dance club with cool laser lights and rockin’ music. Jessica Fenos is winner of Ward 1 City Council Race

After a month-long wait, the winner of the Ward 1 City Council Race has finally been determined. Jessica Fenos, 40, has been named as the next Council Representative of Ward 1. The official tally showed that she beat 20-year-old Anton Krieger by two votes. The unofficial count released by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections on the November 5 elections showed Fenos at 617 and Krieger at 615. At that point, the Board processes the initial votes and adds provisional ballots and other mail-in ballots, which then become the official count. School District faces possible financial hit

The North Royalton School District recently learned that they may be facing a possible financial hit, compliments of the state legislature. The state’s biennium budget, which was adopted earlier this year, included a change in it’s EdChoice scholarship program that has added the North Royalton District, as well as other well-to-do districts in their program. The EdChoice Scholarship program offers scholarship to parents of students in underperforming public schools and for low income students. The program was established in 2005.
