Plastic Bag Ban extended to July 2020

North Royalton City Council introduced legislation at its December 3 meeting that would negate the plastic bag ban that was adopted by Cuyahoga County in May. If passed, North Royalton would join other cities in the county, including Brooklyn. The city of North Olmsted also recently introduced legislation. North Royalton Athletes “Stuff the Bus” for Coats for Kids

The North Royalton High School football team held the 10th Annual Coats for Kids Stuff the Bus event on Saturday, November 23, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. North Royalton residents, friends and neighbors brought new or like-new winter coats and cash donations to the North Royalton Board of Education parking lot at 6579 Royalton Road. The players carried on the decade-long tradition of “stuffing” a North Royalton school bus with coats which will be transferred to Coats for Kids and redistributed to children in need in northeast Ohio. St. Albert the Great building on 60 years of faith for a new generation

The Catholic feast of St. Albert the Great, patron of the parish was November 15. Saint Albert the Great parish celebrated this Feast Day as a Solemnity on Saturday and Sunday, November 16 and 17. This year’s celebration is special due to the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the parish. To celebrate this landmark anniversary year, the annual renewal of Ministers took place at all of the weekend Masses. City Parks and Recreation Departments moves in to new property

The North Royalton Parks and Recreation Department is in the process of moving into a new facility, purchased this year by the city. They will be moving into the previously-owned Cuyahoga County property, which sits adjacent to the York Road ball fields, which will not only give them more room, but will also serve as equipment storage. “We’ll start moving in a little at a time,” said Mayor Bob Stefanik. Former Rite Aid property will be Chase Bank

The Rite Aid property, which is located at the corner of Royalton Road and State Road will be seeing some changes. The property will ultimately be changed from a retail store to a bank. Rite Aid vacated the property when they closed down that store’s location earlier this year. Rite Aid was built in 1997 on the 1.37 acre parcel. The existing 11,316 square foot building will be demolished and a new building housing Chase Bank will be constructed next year. Royal Redeemer Care and Share continues 30 years of Thanksgiving Dinner and fellowship

Care and Share at Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church had humble beginnings back in 1989. A group of volunteers served 100 Thanksgiving dinners. Fast forward to Thanksgiving Day 2019, 1,600 Thanksgiving dinners, 400-500 served inside the church and 1,200 more dinners delivered to shut-ins or given to individuals who wanted to enjoy their dinners at home. Can you imagine cooking 108 turkey breasts and fourteen 20-pound turkeys for those who wanted dark meat? That amounts to 900 pounds of meat. Close Ward 1 Council race to be recounted

On November 26, the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections reported that an automatic recount of the November 5 election would take place on six different races in Cuyahoga County. The Ward 1 Council race was among the others, that included the Council at Large for the city of Brecksville and Rocky River, Council seats in the villages of Valley View and Walton Hills and a Board of Education member in the Brooklyn City School District. Rain could not dampen the excitement for Christmas parade, arrival of Santa and Lighting of City Green

It takes many helping hands to make the magic happen at Christmastime, and thankfully, there are numerous “elves” working hard to spread holiday cheer in North Royalton. Members of the North Royalton Holiday Lighting Committee, the Royalton Hills Lions Club and the City Administration once again helped the City Green come alive as part of the Holiday Lighting and Christmas Parade, a community tradition nearly 20 years in the making. Salvation Army Red Kettle needs your help to spread good cheer

We just accept them as sounds of the season, ringing bells, the little bells rung by Salvation Army volunteers bringing our attention to the familiar Red Kettles. The season is upon us and the Salvation Army is in need of Volunteers to ring the Red Kettle bell in our own Giant Eagle lobby from November 29 to December 23, Wednesdays through Saturday. In previous years the North Royalton Kiwanis, Rotary, Key Club, and Royalton Hills Lions Club jumped in and volunteered as bells ringers, but the Kiwanis disbanded and time slots need to be filled. Sold-out crowd turns out in support of ‘Taste of North Royalton’, benefiting two great causes

It’s no surprise why all 400 tickets to the annual Taste of North Royalton event sell out quickly each year. Apart from raising thousands of dollars for the North Royalton Educational Foundation and the North Royalton Stadium Foundation, the Taste of North Royalton also does its job of not letting anyone leave even remotely hungry. At this year’s event held Nov. 7, guests eagerly packed into the lobby of St. Paul Hellenic Center before the event even officially got underway.
