Hometown merchants invite you to shop ‘Small Business Saturday’

There’s something special about shopping locally. More often than not, the owner is on-site and warmly greets you as you walk in the door. If it’s your first time visiting, they’ll be curious to get to know you. If you’re a regular, they surely know your name and tastes. City’s new Christmas lights, displays to be unveiled at Holiday Lighting on Dec. 1

Residents are truly in for a treat. The city’s holiday lighting display is getting a major upgrade and will be unveiled December 1 at the Holiday Lighting and Christmas Parade on the City Green. The beloved community tradition which includes a lively parade down Ridge Road, complimentary hot cocoa and donuts and visits with Santa Claus will be even more dazzling this year as new displays and LED lights line the City Green along with other city buildings. “We’ll do our usual countdown and flip all the breakers at once,” said Recreation Director Jason Swim. City to receive grant for York Road project

The city recently received notification from the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) that they will receive funding for a portion of the York Road Rehabilitation Project. The project includes the area between Wallings Road and Sprague Road. The project was applied for earlier this year. “The scope of work is a simple mill and fill improvement project of the pavement,” according to North Royalton City Engineer, Mark Schmitzer. St. Albert the Great Students learn about life from Veterans When Saint Albert the Great School sixth grader Jerrel Rayen interviewed Air Force Veteran Christopher Ginn for a recent Veterans Day project, he learned many new things about the Judge Advocate Officer or, “JAG,” for short. Royal View Elementary students “Git Up” for dance challenge
Students in grades kindergarten through fourth grade participated in Royal View Elementary’s first school-wide dance performance by trying the “Git Up” dance challenge. The song “Git Up” by Blanco Brown is a YouTube sensation that teaches a line dance. The music and physical education staff worked with the students to practice the dance using the family friendly version of the song from the YouTube channel, “Homegrown Kids.” The goal of the cross curricular performance was to teach a line dance that was adaptable and fun for all age groups in the elementary grades. Care and Share celebrates its 30 years of Thanksgiving
It’s hard to believe that the Care and Share Thanksgiving Meal at Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church, at the corner of Royalton and Abbey Roads, is celebrating its 30th year of serving others in the North Royalton community. Back on Thanksgiving Day in 1989, Care and Share began with volunteers at Royal Redeemer serving 100 Thanksgiving dinners. In 2019, volunteers are planning to serve 1,600 dinners on Thanksgiving Day, 400 to those who come to the Church for the meal and 1,200 who are shut-ins or prefer to take their meal home.
